ARA State Singles Championships
|
The ARA State Single Championships were held April 1-3 in Little Rock. This year 53 players from across the State came to the Little Rock Athletic Club hoping to prove themselves as the best in either their skill or age division. We had players ranging from 11 years old to 70+ wanting to show that their hard work this last year had paid off. As always this tournament featured great hospitality, and lots of food and fun.
There were great matches played in every division, but the women were probably the most competitive as a whole. The division came down to a tie-breaker that only had 6 points separating 1st- Kim Cook, 2nd- Patti Nichols, and 3rd- Bernadette Godwin. The Mens D division was won by an Brett Kernodle who will be challenging for both the C and B titles in the near future. The Mens Open final featured maybe the best racquetball the State has seen in quite some time. Both players fought hard, and there many great shots and gets in this match, which was won by Erik Leetch 11-10 in an exciting tie-breaker. At this point I would like to welcome the following players to their new divisions: Kim Cook- Womens B, Brett Kernodle- Mens C, Randy Green- Mens B, Casey Garretson- Mens A, and Mike Cook- Mens Open.
As always it takes a lot of work to host a State Tournament, and we would like to thank Danny Davis, Gary Olson, Dan Baker and the staff at Little Rock Athletic Club for their time and effort getting this set up. We also would like to thank Dann Schwinger for coordinating everything and for keeping us as close to on time as we could hope to be. If you see any of these guys please be sure to tell them thanks.
